NETA Espadn: A Masterwork by Don Celedonio Aquino
Experience the soulful expression of Logoche with this limited-release NETA Espadn.
Crafted in the arid heat of the Oaxacan sun, this expression is a testament to the ancestral knowledge of the Aquino family. Don Celedonio, a third-generation palenquero, works alongside his wife, Telsfora, to transform 100% capn agaves into a mezcal of profound depth and character.
Distilled in May 2021 and released in a micro-batch of only 264 bottles, this Espadn captures a specific moment in time, the \”scorching months\” where sugars concentrate, and the terroir of Miahuatln speaks most clearly.

Tasting Notes
- Aroma: The nose opens with the hallmark mineral-forward character of Logoche soil. Initial notes of damp earth and roasted agave are complemented by a bright, floral sweetness reminiscent of desert blooms after a rain. Subtle hints of dried herbs and a whisper of wood smoke linger in the background.
- Palate: On the palate, this Espadn is remarkably structured. Because the agaves were harvested at the peak of the dry season, the honey-like sweetness is concentrated, balanced by savory undertones. Expect layers of green peppercorn, roasted tropical fruit (pineapple/plantain), and a distinct saline minerality.
- Finish: The finish is long, clean, and elegant. It leaves a velvety coating on the tongue with a gentle warmth, echoing the ancestral craftsmanship of the Aquino family. A final touch of bittersweet cocoa and mint provides a refreshing, complex end to the sip.
The \”Capn\” Difference:
Don Celedonio allows these agaves to reach full maturity, cutting the quiote (flowering stalk) and letting the plant rest in the field. This \”capn\” method forces the agave to concentrate its energy and sugars in the heart, resulting in a richer, more viscous spirit.
